Site optimization

Website speed optimization with before-and-after scores.

We find what is holding your pages back, fix it, and measure the result both ways so you can see exactly what changed. Most of the weight on a slow site turns out to be a handful of things nobody has looked at since launch.

Why it matters

Slow pages lose visitors before they read a word.

A customer searching for what you do on a phone, on mobile data, between other things, gives your site a couple of seconds. If nothing has appeared they go back and tap the next result, and you never know it happened.

What we fix

The three usual causes of a slow small business website.

Nearly every slow site we look at is slow for the same three reasons, in roughly the same proportions. The terracotta line under each is what we do about it.

01 Oversized imagesThe single biggest cause, on almost every site we look at. A photo straight off a phone is often four to eight megabytes, and it is being sent at full size to someone on mobile data who will see it at 400 pixels wide. Resized, compressed, converted to modern formats, and set to load only when they come into view.
02 Scripts that block the pageChat widgets, booking tools, tracking pixels, font loaders, and half a dozen plugins each adding their own file. The browser stops and waits for many of them before it draws anything at all. Deferred, combined, or removed where the feature is no longer used. Anything essential loads without holding up the first screen.
03 Hosting and delivery settingsCaching switched off, compression missing, no content delivery network, and a server that takes a second to answer before a single byte of your page has moved. Caching and compression enabled, delivery moved closer to your visitors, and the response time measured before and after.
Proof

Every optimization measured before and after the work.

We record the numbers before touching anything, do the work on a copy of your site, and record them again. Both sets come to you with the tools named, so you can rerun the test yourself whenever you like.

Measured on a phone Tested the way your customers arrive, on a mid-range mobile connection rather than on office fibre.
Backed up first A full backup and a working copy before any change, so the live site is never the experiment.
Yours to repeat Public tools, named in the summary, so the result does not depend on our word for it.
Straight answers

When a speed fix is enough and when a rebuild costs less.

Optimization pays off on a sound site carrying too much weight. It is the wrong purchase for a site fighting its own theme.

Worth optimizing
Most sites
The designYou are happy with how it looks and what it says.
The buildA reasonable theme with a manageable number of plugins.
The weightMostly images and scripts, which is exactly what we remove.
The spendFrom $299 once, and the result holds.
Better rebuilt
Some sites
The designYou have been meaning to replace it anyway.
The buildA page builder stacked with thirty plugins that each add weight.
The weightBuilt into the theme, so trimming it means fighting the platform.
The spend$800 plus $99/mo for a hand-built site that starts fast.
How we decide
The free look
Step oneWe measure your site and read what it is loading.
Step twoYou get a number for optimization and, where it applies, the rebuild comparison.
Step threeYou pick. If a rebuild is cheaper for you, we say so.
Cost of askingNothing. The look is free either way.

Fixed number before we start

Page count and how much has been bolted on over the years move the quote. If the site is slow because it is infected rather than heavy, that is a malware cleanse instead, and we will tell you which one you are looking at.

  • Full backup and a working copy before any change
  • Images resized, compressed, and loaded on demand
  • Blocking scripts deferred, combined, or removed
  • Caching, compression, and delivery settings corrected
  • Before-and-after numbers from public tools
  • A note on what would slow it down again
Questions

Common questions about website speed work.

What owners ask before handing over access to a working site.

Q.01

How fast does a site actually need to be?

The useful target is that the main content appears in under two and a half seconds on a mid-range phone using mobile data, because that is the device most of your customers are holding. Sites we optimize usually start somewhere between five and nine seconds and land under three. We give you both numbers rather than a grade.

Q.02

Can the work break my site?

It can, which is why nothing is changed on the live site first. We take a full backup, do the work on a copy, and compare the two side by side before anything is published. If a change improves speed but breaks a form or a layout, the change is reverted rather than kept.

Q.03

Do I need to move to new hosting?

Usually not. Most of the weight on a slow small business site is images and scripts, and both are fixable where you are. If your host is genuinely the bottleneck we will say so and tell you what moving would gain, without selling you hosting ourselves unless you ask us to run the site.

Q.04

Will the scores stay up afterwards?

The structural fixes stay. What drags a site back down is new content added later: a photo uploaded straight from a phone camera, a booking widget, a tracking script from a marketing tool. We show you which habits cause it, and the monthly care plans exist if you would rather not think about it.

Q.05

Which platforms do you work on?

WordPress most often, and also Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, and hand-built sites. Platform decides how much room there is to work in. On a hosted builder we can fix images, fonts, and third-party scripts but cannot touch server response, and we tell you that before you pay.
